BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP

Newsletter: A monthly newsletter will be sent out to our members to keep them up to date with our news, exhibition notices, external awards, residencies, and opportunities.

Critical Evaluation: Group crits will be held in our project space (pictured above); these can be single or multi-disciplinary and artists of all levels can participate. However, spaces will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Talks and events will include:

  • Talks by resident and visiting artists.
  • Technical demonstrations in the workshops.
  • Seminars and workshops given by arts professionals including funders, gallerists and agents.
  • Film shows and streamed events.
  • When these talks are open to the general public to book online, associate members will have priority booking, though some events may be cost a small fee.

Use of Ocean Studios' Facilities: Associate artists will be able to use the technical workshops, for which hire charges will be on a half or full-day basis. Some materials will be available to purchase from Ocean Studios and will cost the additional hire fee. Any artist wishing to use the workshops will need to have attended an induction session. Lockers are available to hire to store work and belongings as incomplete work cannot be left in the workshops. Glass and ceramic kilns are available to hire for either shared or individual firings. Associate artists are able to hire workshops to teach classes in. The artist will be responsible for all marketing of the course, health and safety of the students and must leave the workshops clean and tidy. Artists can submit proposals to hire the 85m² project space on a daily/weekly basis for classes, ideas development, exhibitions and events. There is a meeting room and one ‘hot desk’ studio available for short term hire.

Continued Professional Development: Ocean Studios are developing an in-house CPD program to include one-to-one and group surgeries, seminars and conferences.  Associates will have access to this. Numbers may be limited for some events and resident artists will be given priority, and there may be a charge for some events depending on funding.

Bursaries & Awards: Associates will be eligible to apply for bursaries and opportunities offered by Ocean Studios both independently and with partners.

Commercial OpportunitiesAssociates will be eligible to apply to sell their artwork in the Ocean Studios shop. Selection of work will take place every three months and a commission fee will be charged on all sales.

Open Studios: Open Studios is when our residents open their studio doors to the public, giving them the opportunity to meet the artists, view their work and buy directly from the artists themselves. Associates can apply to take part in the events and be featured in the catalogue. A commercial-selling exhibition will be hosted for resident artists once a year and associates will be eligible to submit and sell work in the associates section (commission on sales will apply).

Ocean Studios are exploring e-commerce opportunities with partners and associates will be able apply to sell via this platform once it is established.
