This is a two hour long workshop under the expert guidance of Magda. She will introduce children and young people to few basic hand stitching techniques or further develop their existing hand sewing techniques. What you can make: There will be three items available to choose from: Keyring/Bookmark/Bracelets. At the end of the workshop participants will be able to take home an item their stitched and decorated. All material provided.
What you learn:
Learn to thread a hand sewing needle
Learn basic hand stitching techniques such as blanket stitch, running stitch and backstitch
Learn how to knot the end of the hand sewing thread
Create and decorate your own item to take home
The rational and additional benefits:
There are many brain, health and emotional benefits of hand work. Various studies shows that hand work, whether embroidery, hand stitching or knitting contribute to improve eye-hand coordination, concentration, creativity, mindfulness, confidence and fine-motor skills. Some of the health benefits documented by research are lowering of blood pressure and also lowering the risk of dementia.
Who is it aimed for:
The workshop is aimed for children from the age of 5 onwards. This workshop is perfect for total beginners or those who wish to develop their hand sewing techniques or just give their mind a creative space. The workshop will be facilitated by two skilled and knowledgeable sewers who has a long experience in the field of dress making, soft furnishing and design.
